Disco may be dead, but its spirit lives on in Forever Fever, a nostalgic and charming homage to Saturday Night Fever, John Travolta, and Bruce Lee.

Set during the late seventies, the film follows the life of Hock (Adrian Pang), a down-on-his-luck grocery store employee who longs for nothing more than a brand new Triumph motorcycle. A rabid Bruce Lee fan, Hock decides to go to the theatre to catch a return showing of Fist of Fury. To his total horror, the film has been replaced with Forever Fever (a copyright-friendly substitution for Saturday Night Fever). Although bored by the movie at first, Hock soon finds himself entranced by the smooth dance moves aof John Travolta´s character.As fate would have it, a popular discotheque is holding a dance competition with a prize of five thousand dollars, more than enough to pay for Hock´s prized motorcycle. There´s only one problem: Hock can´t dance!

Little Papaya (Mindee Ong) and Big Papaya (Yeo Yann Yann) grow up idolizing Chen Jin Lang, the King of Hokkien Getai, and dream of becoming Getai singers themselves. Their heart wrenching story is related by their introspective but highly sensitive friend and driver, Guan Yin (Qi Yu Wu).

Coached by their seamstress Ling Yi (Liu Ling Ling), the Papaya sisters struggle at first because they have no “feel” in their voices. They appeal to Aunt Ling’s estranged twin sister, the Goddess of Getai, for help. She grants them their wish, but warns them the price will be high, especially if they do not obey the rules of Getai.

"Through this film, I seek to capture the distinctive flavour of Singapore’s Getai, as well as preserve on celluloid some of my favourite songs from the classic Getai repertoire. As a Hokkien boy, I must add that I have a special fondness for the dialect, which I think is an indispensable part of my heritage, and hope young film-goers will hear its beauty in the songs’ lyrics. I also hope you will have as much fun watching this film as I had making it."
